BAF Technologies
recently announced it will continue to provide vehicle conversion
services on select Ford products. This follows an announcement by
Ford that it plans to stop production of its compressed natural
gas (CNG) and liquid propane gas (LPG) vehicles after model year
2004.

Plead with Automaker To Reconsider Its Exit from the Market
Top representatives of the natural gas vehicle and NGV fueling industries
have met with Ford officials to ask the automaker to reconsider
its decision to exit the
CNG vehicles sector (F&F, February 2) — or at least support
an aftermarket conversion program, preferably by supplying CNG-ready
engines with hardened
valves and optimized compression ratio. Ford confirmed on January
30 that it would stop offering NGVs, and propane vehicles, after
the current
2004 model year.

Technologies To Continue Conversions On Ford Products
BAF Technologies
(formerly Bachman AFV) announced that it will continue to provide
vehicle conversion services on select Ford products. This announcement
comes on the heels of Ford’s announcement that it is considering
ending production of its CNG vehicles after the 2004 model year.
Currently, BAF is producing CNG versions of the Ford E450 cutaway
with the 6.8L engine and the Ford Crown Victoria sedan. In addition,
BAF is exploring the production of CNG versions of the F250 and
E350 engines.

Towns in New York and California Could Pick CNG for Cop Car

says an increasing number of cities are opting for compressed natural
gas for their Ford Crown Victoria police sedans because of safety
concerns: several police officers have been killed and others have
had narrow escapes when gasoline-fueled Crown Vics have burned after
being hit from behind.
BAF is the new name of Kentucky’s Bachman AFV,ural Gas Vehicles
which recently relocated to Texas. The firm has a $1.89 million
contract to convert 175 new Crown Vics to dedicated-CNG operation
for the City of Dallas, which has lost officers to Crown Vic fires.
