Alternative
Fuel Systems - Training
Training
BAF Technologies
is in business to integrate current and emerging alternative fuel
vehicle technologies with the ever-changing needs of our customers.
From light-duty vehicle conversions to medium-duty and heavy-duty
truck applications, as well as industrial equipment, BAF Technologies
provides products and services to cover the expanding use of natural
gas and propane as proven alternative fuels. Alternative fuel vehicles
(AFVs) require proper maintenance, just as conventional vehicles
do. It is important to have trained and competent AFV technicians
to properly maintain and service AFVs. Technicians must understand
the differences between the various fuels and fuel systems, and,
have a good understanding of the required maintenance procedures
for system components. At BAF Technologies, we understand that providing
a product, no matter how good, is not the end of the story. That
is why we also offer complete product training for technicians,
fleet managers, and vehicle operators. Our current courses include:
Comprehensive
System Training (CST)
The
CST course is just what it says – comprehensive. This is a
24-hour course designed for the technician, fleet manager, or anyone
else desiring to know it all! All the way from CNG, LNG, and LPG
as alternative fuel sources, to current EPA regulations, to state-of-the-art
equipment, and of course, product and personal safety, this is the
course to take for a complete understanding of the present state
of the industry. Also included is training on the customer’s
selected conversion system equipment using the manufacture’s
recommended training materials and diagnostic equipment. This course
is presented in a lecture format with a portion of time allocated
for hands-on demonstrations and system troubleshooting.
Specific
System Training (SST)
This course is designed to provide trainees with an advanced
understanding of a specific manufacturer’s equipment including
system theory, maintenance procedures, diagnosis and troubleshooting
methods as well as proper use of any required diagnostic equipment.
Each course runs 8 hours and is targeted to a single manufacturer’s
system. If training is needed for multiple manufacturers’
equipment, the course can be extended 8 hours for each additional
system. The format for this class begins with a lecture format and
ends with hands-on diagnosis and problem solving. Currently SST
courses are available for the following systems:
- Teleflex/GFI
- Baytech
- Hybrid Fuels
Systems
- Impco
- Technocarb
Vehicle
Operator Training (VOT)
Designed
to prepare the vehicle operator for the new experience of operating
an alternative fuel vehicle, this course closes the loop within
our customers’ organization to ensure “buy in”.
In this course we describe the unique operating characteristics
of an alternative fuel vehicle and the many similarities to their
liquid fueled counterparts. Each trainee is made aware of the inherit
safety BAF Technologies designs into the vehicle as well as measures
operators should to take to ensure passenger safety. During a complete
tour of the vehicle, trainees are made familiar with equipment function
and use. The format of this class begins with a comprehensive lecture
on alternative fuel safety then moves on to a complete vehicle/system
review including an opportunity for each trainee to operate the
vehicle and, if available, a hands-on refueling demonstration. This
course can be shortened to a time frame where the hands-on refueling
exercise is eliminated and vehicle operation is limited to a single
demonstration by one trainee.
Our instructors
are well qualified with more than 45 years of alternative fuel experience
including automotive, heavy-duty, and industrial applications. The
content of each course is specifically targeted to the stated needs
of our customers. A complete set of course materials are provided
to each trainee. Our training can be provided at the customer’s
location to minimize expense. To ensure we meet our goal of reaching
every trainee on their level, class size is limited to a maximum
of ten trainees.
